The IPL schedule for the 2024 season has been officially announced, revealing that Chennai will play host to the final match after a gap of 12 years. The decision to award Chennai the final comes as Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions, secure the privilege of hosting both the opening and final matches of the tournament, following convention.
According to the complete schedule released by the BCCI, the final match is scheduled to take place at the Chidambaram Stadium on May 26, with Chennai also receiving the hosting rights for the second qualifier on May 24. This allocation of matches takes into account the polling dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, demonstrating a strategic approach to venue selection.
The IPL commenced on March 22 with the announcement of the schedule for the initial two weeks comprising 21 matches. As the tournament progresses, the focus shifts towards the pivotal playoff matches, with Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium set to host the other two marquee playoff encounters on May 21 and 22 respectively.
